Federal, regional and state actions in 2016 have pointed to the evolution of demand response beyond the traditional boundaries of wholesale market design. 2016 began with the Supreme Court upholding FERC Order 745, certifying the legality of demand response mechanisms.

When viewed together, these individual acts become a symphony of market disruption; each with their own set of barriers and opportunities towards evolutionary progress. This presentation demonstrates that these specific acts are as much a catalyst in the transformation to the distributed future as federal regulation; and furthermore, that these smaller acts give us better hints as to where the opportunities lay.
